DA by-election candidate gunned down in Western Cape

Democratic Alliance (DA) by-election candidate Sinovuyo Dyokwe has been shot dead in Dunoon on Saturday after spending the day registering voters.

The 48-year-old Ward 104 by-election candidate was returning home from voter registration activities when the shooting occurred.
The DA condemned the killing and called for justice.
DA mourns slain by-election candidate
DA Cape Town metro chairperson JP Smith and DA constituency head Nicholas Gotsell expressed shock over the killing.
“The Democratic Alliance is saddened and outraged by the murder of our Dunoon Ward 104 by-election candidate and community activist, Sinovuyo Dyokwe,” they said.
The party described Dyokwe as a committed activist who helped grow the DA’s support base in the area. It said residents knew her for her dedication, positive attitude and community work.
SAPS probes fatal shooting
Western Cape police have launched a murder investigation.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the victim came under attack in Mnandi Street, Dunoon, at about 18:00 on Saturday.
Furthermore, provincial serious violent crime detectives have joined the investigation. Police had not arrested any suspects at the time of publication.
Party vows to seek justice
The DA extended its condolences to Dyokwe’s family, friends and colleagues.
In addition, the party arranged counselling support for those affected by the tragedy. Gotsell is also engaging with the police to establish the facts.
Meanwhile, the party has vowed to support Dyokwe’s loved ones.
“The DA will be monitoring the situation closely and will fight to ensure Sinovuyo’s loved ones receive the justice they deserve,” Smith and Gotsell said.
