Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he’s had it with months dedicated to various causes, arguing there are too many and that it’s becoming difficult to keep track of them.

Speaking at a press conference on June 19, the opposition leader said, “I think there are so many months now that are dedicated to so many causes it’s kind of getting hard to keep track of which month is for what cause or for what group.”

Poilievre added that the best way forward is to stop woke indulgences and treat people the same way, regardless of who they are.

“My view is that we should treat everyone equally,” he said. “Regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation or any other irrelevant characteristic.”

Citizens, not colonizers

A day later, Poilievre was in British Columbia for a town hall meeting , where a recent high school graduate told him that her school was comparing the student body to “an occupying army,” prompting visible shock from the Conservative leader.

“Am I considered a colonizer or a British Columbian and a Canadian citizen?” the graduate asked.

“Yes, obviously, I think you’re a citizen. We have to stop dividing our people with this kind of awful race propaganda,” Poilievre replied to loud applause.

Support for Poilievre

Poilievre’s message is resonating with some Canadian social media users, many of whom say they are also frustrated by categorizing Canadians based on immutable characteristics and the impact they believe it is having on national unity.

One poster wrote , “We have 12 months lol … Veterans have 1 day and to be honest Ottawa celebrates it only for an hour or two that day. First responders have none. Meanwhile every Tom, Dick And Harry has their months, and God forbid we say anything about it.”

“Well, I’m a First Nations member and I agree with what he just said,” another user posted . “I, for one, have never supported this idea of calling people colonizers. It’s nonsense and it’s counterproductive.”
