Shamrock Rovers 1 - 1 Derry City FT
[Getty Images]Aaron Greene scored an equaliser in the 83rd minute to deny Derry City a win over League of Ireland Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers.
Liam Boyce had opened the scoring in the 25th minute when he headed home James McClean's cross at Tallaght Stadium.
But Greene struck inside the final 10 minutes to ensure Derry left Dublin with an 11th draw in 23 league matches.
Tiernan Lynch's side are sixth in the table with just one win in their last 10 games while, at the top, Rovers are six points clear of St Patrick's Athletic, who have two games in hand over the holders.
The Candystripes are 18 points off Rovers at the top.
"To be very honest, if you had offered me a point down here tonight, especially where we are at the moment, I'd have probably snapped your arm off for it," Lynch said after the game.
"I couldn't be more proud of them because I actually came in after the game and they were disappointed that they didn't hold out and get all three points.
"Tonight was definitely backs against the wall for long periods but I actually thought we had some really good chances to go on and increase our lead, but I couldn't be more proud of the players."
After Boyce's opener, the hosts had a penalty appeal waved away when Dylan Watts went down in the area under a challenge from McClean and goalkeeper Eddie Beach denied teenager Michael Noonan after an error from Patrick McClean.
In the second half, Michael Duffy spurned a chance to double Derry's lead when Ed McGinty saved his chip and the visitors were punished when Greene raced into the area and fired home with seven minutes remaining of normal time.
After playing their recent home matches at Celtic Park, the home of Derry's Gaelic games, the Candystripes return to their new grass-hybrid Brandywell on Friday against Drogheda United.
