While Brooks is looking for a new contract before the final year of his current deal expires, he's been on the field working during the team's offseason program.
Not only can Brooks help with his on-field performance, but the veteran can also help bring along rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez while Brooks takes on a new role that he's looking forward to in 2026.
"I've actually never really had a linebacker drafted since I've been in the league," Brooks told Dolphins team reporter Travis Wingfield. "I was kind of the younger guy coming into an older room when I got drafted, and I remember how the vets kind of reached out to me on my draft day. It kind of made that moment a little bit more special. I just kind of want to return that favor to Jacob coming in."
Rodriguez also made it clear that the veteran is a fan of the rookie and had some high praise for his final season at Texas Tech.
"I think, at linebacker, the thing you look for is, one, the IQ, seeing how he's controlling the defense," Brooks said. "That's the first part. Getting everybody lined up, and then just the way he plays football. I think he's different. Personally, I think he had probably the best college football season, for a linebacker, ever. Just seeing the way he plays, the way he practices. It wasn't hard to see that 'OK, this guy is for real.'"
While Rodriguez could end up taking some of Brooks' snaps at some point, Brooks wants to be a leader at the position and help his young guys find success in this league.
