With the start of the NHL free agency signing period just hours away, Patrick Kane’s decision about whether he will re-sign with the Detroit Red Wings should be known today.

Visit xsportfeed.life for more information.

Kane signed right before July 1 in each the past two seasons. With Dylan Larkin’s trade request hanging over the team and the team’s need to renovate its offense, Kane’s decision is even more critical than it was the last two seasons.

The team needs to score more goals, and this year’s free agent marketplace is short on proven scorers. If you take Larkin and Kane out of the team’s offense, then Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond are the only proven Top Six forwards remaining.

Here are potential UFAs the Red Wings may be eyeing:

Anders Lee

He is 35, but he can still find the net and play a physical game. The Red Wings are looking to add pushback into their game. Lee’s 19 goals last season left him one goal short of his fifth consecutive 20-plus goal season. The 234-pound Minnesota native left wing boasts 308 goals in 923 NHL games.

Victor Arvidsson

The Swedish left wing put up 25 goals and 54 points last season. Only three Red Wings scored 25 or more goals last season.

Mason Marchment

He’s a 6-foot-5 winger who offers guts and goals. He will score around 20 goals and be a physical player. Marchment may be better suited for the third line, but can play on the second line as well.

In Case You Missed It

The Red Wings have added to two Plantes to spiff up the place. Will they obtain a third from the Pittsburgh Penguins?

Don’t be surprised if GM Steve Yzerman adds a veteran goalie to Detroit’s mix.

Detroit Extra

Anthony Mantha will be a UFA, but it doesn’t seem likely that either the Red Wings or Mantha would desire a reunion. . . Michigan native Megan Keller, the hero of the 2026 U.S. Women’s Olympic medal victory, is thrilled to see Detroit with a Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) team.
