Despite hauling in one of the top transfer portal classes in the country, one college basketball analyst placed Texas A&M in the middle of the pack in his preseason SEC power rankings.
CBS Sports college hoops insider Jon Rothstein has the Aggies as the ninth-best team in the conference entering the 2026-27 season. This comes just a season removed from the first season of "Bucky Ball" in Bryan-College Station, in which Texas A&M finished the campaign sixth in the league standings and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, before being eliminated by No. 2 seed Houston.

Meanwhile, the in-state rival Texas Longhorns are ranked second in Rothstein's preseason SEC power rankings, which Texas A&M split a home-and-home series with.

After an outstanding run in Bucky McMillan's first season at the helm, the Aggies hauled in the No. 18 transfer portal class in college basketball. This year's portal class features PJ Haggerty, who finished last year as the nation's third-leading scorer, and other talented shooters like Jalen Shelley (LMU) and Tyshawn Archie (McNeese).
In addition to the impressive transfer haul, Texas A&M retained veteran forward Zach Clemence, along with former McDonald's All-American and Big Ten co-Freshman of the Year Mackenzie Mgbako, who started in just seven games for the Aggies before suffering a season-ending injury.
McMillan suffered a massive loss with All-SEC selection Rashaun Agee spending his last year of eligibility in 2025-26, but Mgbako's return and the addition of 6-foot-9 Tennessee transfer Cade Phillips should help the Aggies on the glass and inside the paint.
For Texas A&M's SEC slate in 2026-27, the Aggies will face LSU, Texas and Vanderbilt for home-and-home games. McMillan's squad will travel to Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and South Carolina, while hosting Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Georgia at Reed Arena.
