Tennis Fans Hail Alexandra Eala as She Eliminates Iga Świątek at Wimbledon

Eala delivered a nerveless performance in the third round of the Wimbledon Championships, claiming a 7-6(9), 6-2 win over Świątek. After a close first set that could have gone either way, the Filipino tennis star took control in the second and didn’t look back.

The defending Wimbledon champion had no response to Eala’s impressive returns and saw her serve broken 5 times. The performance from Eala was so good that even Świątek’s fans heaped praise on her.

“I’m not even mad. I’m just sad. Devastated, really. Iga fought hard in the first set but couldn’t maintain that level. Alex was simply the better player today, both on serve and on return. Congrats, Alex. Well deserved. Laban,” wrote one fan on X.

Another tennis fan was inspired by Eala’s post-match on-court interview.

“Why am I crying over her speech like I’m Filipino,” they wrote.

Another hailed Eala’s resilience in claiming yet another impressive win against a top-10 player after defeating Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina in Berlin.

“ALEX EALA MENTAL TOUGHNESS AGAINST BIG OPPONENTS MUST BE STUDIED. OH MY GOODNESS SHE’S A STAR,” they wrote.

Another user shared their pride at Eala’s statement win over the world No. 3.

“What a massive statement win from Alex Eala, ph tennis is on top of the world tonight,” they wrote.

One fan quoted Eala’s emotional comments during her post-match on-court interview.

“‘Just because I’m emotional does not mean I’m satisfied.’ Love that line from Alex. What a win,” they wrote.

With this win, Eala has made it to the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. Next up for her is another tough test against the 13th seed, Jasmine Paolini. But if she plays as she has done so far during the grass-court swing, few will bet against her making a deep run at the Wimbledon Championships.

Meanwhile, it is back to the drawing board for Świątek, who has endured a disappointing year. She will drop to at least sixth in the WTA rankings after failing to defend her Wimbledon title and has her work cut out as she looks to get back on track.
