Assistant Sam Cassell speaks on Celtics sending Jaylen Brown to Sixers

· Yahoo Sports

The Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics got together to pull off the stunner of the offseason with Jaylen Brown headed to the Sixers in exchange for Paul George, two firsts, and two seconds. The Sixers are bringing in a finals MVP winner, a player who was just named to the All-NBA Second Team, and a player who just led the Celtics to the No. 2 seed in the East in what was supposed to be a "gap year" due to the Jayson Tatum injury.

In the end, the Sixers appear to have made out like bandits. Will it all pay off? That remains to be seen as the two teams look to now move forward with their respective championship hopes, but Philadelphia looks like the winner in this situation.

Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell, who has also served as an assistant on the Sixers, gave his thoughts on the Brown trade:

Jaylen has done everything possible for this city. He’ll be missed, but it’s the NBA. Wilt Chamberlain got traded after he averaged 50 points one year. So, it happens. Trades happen in the NBA. I wish nothing but the best for Jaylen. He’s a hell of a basketball player.

Brown will now look to move on and help the Sixers move forward. The franchise has not reached the finals since 2001 and has not won a title since 1983. After helping the Celtics win the championship in 2024, Brown will look to help Philadelphia get the job done and help win its first title since 1983.
