Foot chase through Verulam
As officers reached an intersection, they spotted the suspects running past their patrol vehicle. They immediately gave chase on foot as the men fled towards the R102.
During the pursuit, officers recovered two stolen double spiral hotplate stoves before the suspects escaped through a shortcut into a nearby taxi rank.
RUSA officers continued searching the area and later found four more double spiral hotplate stoves hidden in bushes along the embankment between Todd Street and the R102.
In total, they recovered all six stolen stoves, including four Aruif brand units and two Blutek brand units. They returned the recovered items to the business owner.
Business owner claims repeat theft
The shop owner told RUSA officers that the three men entered the store pretending to be customers before each grabbed several hotplate stoves and ran off.
He also claimed the same suspects targeted his business a few days earlier and stole several more hotplate stoves.
