SILENTLY GRIEVING

In recent weeks, Jayden Adams had been mourning the death of his grandmother, Marianna Adams, who died on the eve of the team’s group stage match against Czechia.

Jayden started the match, which took place at the Atlanta Stadium in the US.

He remained on international duty for the rest of South Africa’s participation in the tournament, missing his grandmother’s funeral.

In a post-match interview, Jayden paid tribute to his grandmother, stating, “My legs were playing, but my heart was in heaven with her.

“She’s the reason I’m here… Wearing the green and gold meant everything to her.”

Jayden Adams had also been mourning the death of his best friend and former Stellenbosch FC teammate, Oshwin Andries, who was brutally stabbed to death in 2023.

After winning the Betway Premiership championship last year under his new club, Mamelodi Sundowns, Adams said: “Everything that I win is dedicated to him, Oswin Andries.

This one goes to him, his family, my family, friends, and everyone back in Cape Town.”

As with Adams, mystery surrounds the circumstances of Andries’ death.
