NFL analyst explains why Dolphins can be optimistic for 2026

The Miami Dolphins have changed up their front office, coaching staff and most of their roster since the team's 32-20 loss to the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in Week 18, forcing many to put some remarkably low expectations on Jeff Hafley's squad.
While the Dolphins will likely end up with one of the top picks in the 2027 NFL draft, Touchdown Wire's Josh Petry recently identified Miami's biggest reason for optimism in 2026: their speed on offense.

"The speed isn't necessarily gone in Miami, but it definitely decreased a bit with the recent departures," Petry wrote. "The Dolphins have one of the best and wealthiest running backs in the game today with De'Von Achane, and Malik Willis will now take the reins of the franchise all to himself as a high-paid (nearly unproven) quarterback. Is a Super Bowl in the Dolphins' future? Probably not, but they could absolutely challenge for a Wild-Card spot in the AFC."
Trading Jaylen Waddle and releasing Tyreek Hill were two big hits to Miami's speed on the offensive side of the ball. However, Willis' unofficial 4.37-second 40-yard dash time at Auburn is impressive.
Rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas also ran a 4.39 at this year's combine, and while fellow rookie Chris Bell was recovering from injury that prevented him from working out at the combine, he's expected to bring speed to the offense as well.
If Miami has players that can run, that will always play in the NFL.
