The Tampa Bay Rays couldn't end the first half of the season with a win, but they are still in a great spot as they arrive at the MLB All-Star Break.
The team fell short of completing the series sweep at Tropicana Field as the Seattle Mariners salvaged the final game, defeating the Rays 8-2. Here is what you need to know about the contest.

Damage Done EarlyIan Seymour got the start to end the first half of the season for the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, and it wasn't his best outing.
After starting off strong in the first inning, he allowed too much base traffic the next frame and allowed three runs to score. Seymour finished with 3.1 innings on the day, allowing five earned runs on six hits, striking out three but also walking three.
The four relievers that came out of the bullpen following Seymour did their best to play damage control but allowed two more earned runs across the final 5.2 innings in the game.
Slow Night For BatsIt also was a pretty quiet night for the Rays' bats at the plate.
It was a short-lived start for Mariners pitcher Emerson Hancock due to injury, so the Mariners were forced to go with seven pitchers in the game and yet still held the Rays to only four hits in the contest.
The highlight of the game for Tampa Bay was a two-run home run by Jonathan Aranda in the bottom of the eighth inning, his 14th of the season.
Plenty to be Excited AboutNot the outcome the Rays wanted, however, Jonathan Aranda continues to swing a hot bat. Over his last 26 games entering today, he was slashing .364/.439/.505 with a .944 OPS, 167 wRC+, and 10 XBH.

The Tampa Bay Rays will head into the All-Star break leading the American League with a 56-38 record and, despite the loss in the series finale on Sunday, will carry a 35-15 record at Tropicana Field so far this year.
They currently hold a three-game lead against the New York Yankees for the AL East Division title. Although they don't play the Bronx Bombers until the end of the season, the Rays will begin the second half of the year on an eight-game road trip against division rivals.
The team will now head into the All-Star Break for the next 5 days. Following the festivities at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, which include Junior Caminero in the Home Run Derby as well as 5 Rays in Tuesday's All-Star Game, the team will be back in action beginning on the road Friday at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. Griffin Jax (5-6, 3.47 ERA) is scheduled to go for Tampa Bay in the first start of the second half of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM EST.
