The plan for the Miami Dolphins this offseason has been very clear: kick-start the rebuild. They've released plenty of key players and traded away others like Jaylen Waddle.

But now, after the NFL Draft, the Dolphins have been fairly quiet. That doesn't mean they're done making moves, especially with training camp right around the corner. In fact, training camp might be the time to cash in on a few trade chips.

While not the most obvious name to watch out for in a trade, Bleacher Report's Moe Moton highlighted veteran linebacker Tyrel Dodson as someone who could be on the move, with the Jacksonville Jaguars a team that would make sense.

Dolphins' Tyrel Dodson linked to Jaguars amid trade speculation

"Jacksonville Jaguars: Trade a late 2027 pick for Miami Dolphins LB Tyrel Dodson," Moton writes. "... Despite those numbers, Miami may not retain him on an expiring contract in a rebuild year."

The Dolphins' veteran linebacker had a very strong 2025 season. He recorded 129 total tackles with five sacks, 10 tackles for loss, six quarterback hits, three passes defended, one forced fumble, and one interception.

But, with a crowded depth chart around him, and Dodson's contract coming up after the 2026 season, trading him before the year begins, or at the trade deadline, would make a lot of sense.

Miami isn't planning to contend in 2026, and they might not even want to keep Dodson under contract beyond the upcoming season, either.

Sure, they could land a compensatory pick in free agency, but relying on that uncertain game wouldn't be smart.

Instead, trading Dodson now and landing a 2027 draft pick to help the rebuild as soon as possible, instead of a 2028 compensatory pick, would make way more sense.

Besides, with Jordyn Brooks, Kyle Louis, Jacob Rodriguez, Ronnie Harrison Jr., Max Llewellyn, and Cameron Goode on the depth chart, Dodson is expendable.

Moton linking Dodson to the Jaguars, who could use a linebacker after losing Devin Lloyd in free agency, makes perfect sense as a possible trade pairing.
