The New England Patriots addressed their positions of need this offseason, but they might need one or two more pieces to solidify their Super Bowl-contending roster for next season.

According to the NFL’s Matt Okada, the edge rusher position is the biggest roster hole that the Patriots face this offseason.
”I have been looking for the Patriots to add a sack specialist for months now, and still, their only notable additions off the edge have been second-round pick Gabe Jacas and seven-year veteran Dre'Mont Jones,” Okada wrote. “Unless Jacas -- who has yet to practice with the team and remains unsigned at publishing -- is a rookie sensation or Jones has a career year, this hole could haunt the Pats late into the season.”
Harold Landry was effective for the Patriots last season, as he led the team in sacks with 8.5.
Another season of the sort from the veteran edge rusher will ensure New England has a good pass-rushing presence on one side of the defensive line. Jones had a career year in 2025 with seven sacks registered, and he is anticipated to have another strong season in 2026. He has yet to produce double-digit sacks in a season in his career.
Jacas is likely to play behind both veterans next season, and his signing status is still a concern for the team ahead of training camp. Pursuing a star free agent this summer may serve the Patriots well, as they have $34.7 million in cap space to use on a marquee player the likes of Jadeveon Clowney or Joey Bosa.
