Spain allegedly edited Donald Trump out of World Cup celebration picture

Donald Trump was one of the many celebrities in East Rutherford, NJ on Sunday for the World Cup final. After Spain’s 1-0 win over Argentina, the US President went out on stage with FIFA president Gianni Infantino to take part in the trophy ceremony. Trump handed out medals to players from both teams. Then he presented the trophy to Rodri, the team captain who took home player of the tournament honors.

Trump took his time getting off stage and settled on the edge of what would have been the team picture. (Yes, he did briefly break out his signature arm-pumping dance move while on stage.) And there he stood as Spain raised the cup. His lingering presence was enough for an Australian broadcaster to comment that they would “edit him out”

When Spain’s official X account tweeted out a picture of the celebration, Trump was not in it. This led some in the replies to believe that he had been cropped or edited out.

While they may have chosen a picture that does not feature Trump, there’s no reason to believe he was edited, cropped or photoshopped out of this image. As you can see in the full video, Infantino did eventually convince Trump to step away from the team so they could have their moment. That’s why you don’t see him in some images.

FIFA did crop Trump

Of course, that’s not to say that some choices were made on Sunday. If you look at the image FIFA’s official X account shared, Trump is cut off. That’s probably a crop. And exactly the reason Infantino probably wanted his friend to move along.
