How all former Missouri basketball players fared at NBA Summer League

A group of former Tigers have wrapped up their summer in Sin City.

Five players who finished their college careers with Missouri basketball saw playing time in the NBA Summer League, which ran July 9-19 in Las Vegas. The event is an opportunity for players to compete for free agent deals for the upcoming season.
Mark Mitchell played for the Denver Nuggets after signing an Exhibit 10 deal, Tamar Bates is on a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz, Sean East II was with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jevon Porter featured for the Memphis Grizzlies and Caleb Grill played for the Boston Celtics.
Ex-Tigers Trevon Brazile and John Tonje, who each spent a season in Columbia in their college careers, played for the Nuggets and Celtics, respectively.
Former Mizzou center Shawn Phillips Jr. initially signed a Summer League contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, but he did not appear in any games after he was named in an eligibility injunction filed in Ohio against the NCAA. Porter is part of a similar lawsuit in California.

Mark Mitchell, Denver Nuggets

Mitchell was on the floor for 16.1 minutes per outing over four games for the Nuggets, putting up only modest numbers in his Summer League debut. He shot 35.7% from the field and 25.0% from 3-point range and had a negative assist-to-turnover ratio.
Tamar Bates, Utah Jazz

Bates was the most productive Mizzou grad in Vegas. He shot 54.2% from the field and 40.0% from the floor while playing 19.6 minutes per game over four total appearances.
Caleb Grill, Boston Celtics

Grill shot 5-of-10 from 3-point range in three total games for the Celtics, playing 10.0 minutes per outing. He was 57.1% from the field.
Sean East II, Cleveland Cavaliers

East, who has had successful stints in Canada and the G League since graduating from Missouri, averaged 12.2 minutes over four games for the Cavs, shooting 46.7% from the field and 40.0% from 3-point range.
Jevon Porter, Memphis Grizzlies
Porter was on the floor for 2.2 minutes in his one Summer League appearance in Las Vegas and had an empty box score.
He played in three games in the Salt Lake City Summer League, where he recorded a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double in his second of three games.
John Tonje, Celtics

Tonje, who was teammates with Grill in the 2023-24 season at Mizzou, played five times in Summer League on the same squad as the guard again. He shot 51.0% from the field on more than 10 attempts per game, including a 45.2% mark from 3-point range.

Brazile, who spent his freshman year at MU before transferring to Arkansas, had a 47.4% clip from behind the arc on more than six attempts per game alongside Mitchell at Denver. The second-round draft pick averaged 27.9 minutes on the floor over three games.
