LIV Golf’s uncertain future results in ‘significant’ increase in inquiries from players about DP World Tour options for 2027

The number of players from LIV Golf who have reached out to the DP World Tour, including those currently with no status, has increased “significantly” in recent weeks as pros of varying levels seek clarification where they might be able to play in 2027.
LIV Golf faces an uncertain future following confirmation that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund would no longer finance the league after this season, and the Asian Tour’s decision to align with the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, as Golf Digest first reported on Tuesday. The Asian Tour had acted as LIV’s secondary tour since 2022, creating a lucrative block of events within the circuit called the International Series and offering pathways to LIV from its Order of Merit.

On Thursday, sources with knowledge of the situation told Golf Digest that players on LIV who are also members of the DP World Tour had been in regular discussions with the European circuit about scheduling in 2027. But those talks increased in recent weeks as LIV was in the midst of a seven-week break ahead of this week’s tournament in the U.K.
According to sources, there also has been plenty of interest from players without DP World Tour status who are trying to explore their options in earnest for 2027. Those non-members also have stepped up their dialogue with the Old-World circuit during the past few weeks. Players have even inquired about the Hotel Planner Tour, the DP World Tour’s developmental circuit.

Recently, eight players on LIV agreed to conditional releases to continue playing on the DP World Tour in 2026. Jon Rahm later agreed to a similar deal, which made him eligible to compete in the 2027 Ryder Cup.
Keen to have all options in front of them, players without any status for next year also have inquired about eligibility for the DP World Tour’s qualifying school, which runs across various sites from the first stages in late August until the final stage in Spain in early November. There are cards available on the DP World Tour for the 2027 season via the top 15 and ties from final stage.
Earlier on Thursday, popular social-media account Flushing It Golf published a report stating seven players on LIV had indicated they were planning to leave the league after the season ended regardless of whether funding was secured.
It comes after Golf Digest reported on Tuesday that the Asian Tour was set to re-align with the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour in a formal partnership underlined by pathways and co-sanctioned tournaments.
The new agreement between the three tours is highlighted by the addition of at least two co-sanctioned events between the Asian Tour and DP World Tour for the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons. The partnership also will award cards from the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit to both the DP World and the HotelPlanner Tour.
Once promoted to the DP World Tour, Asian Tour players can compete for one of 10 cards on the PGA Tour for the following season offered via the Strategic Alliance.
