These days in the NBA, ESPN insider Shams Charania usually has all the news reported on his social media feeds first.
It can sometimes take a while for the league and the team, in this case the Boston Celtics, to announce a transaction has been completed.
It didn't take that long for Thursday's Jordan Walsh extension news, though.
Charania reported late Thursday morning that Walsh has signed a three-year, $15 million deal with Boston.
By Thursday evening, Walsh's signing was officially in the NBA's transaction log.

While it's the middle of July and timing doesn't mean much, it's still nice that Boston has this contract all completed smoothly, because it's a big deal for Walsh.
The 22-year old from Texas, by way of the University of Arkansas, is 6-foot-6 and has already played parts of three NBA seasons after being a second-round pick.
Second-rounders don't often get early extensions like this, so Walsh has clearly done something right.
Walsh had very little action as a rookie, but he played 52 games in 2024-25 and 68 games in 2025-26.
This past season was by far Walsh's best, and it included 25 starts. Overall, he averaged 5.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks per game.
Walsh also raised his 3-point shooting to 38.4%, a rate that makes him very formidable if he can keep it up.
The Celtics have done a lot of business this offseason. Walsh's contract could fly under the radar, but it could end up being important.
