Paris Saint-Germain are set to receive competition from Atletico Madrid as the race to sign Barcelona's Ferran Torres heats up.
According to a report by Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo via Le10Sport, Atletico Madrid are keeping an eye on the developments surrounding Ferran Torres ahead of the new season. Los Rojiblancos are aware of FC Barcelona's interest in their forward, Julian Alvarez, as the Catalan club made futile attempts a few days back to sign the man.

While Atletico reiterated their wish to keep Alvarez at the club for the future, they are now counting him as an asset who could possibly be used in potential negotiations with Barcelona for the signing of Torres.
The former Manchester City forward handed the World Cup to Spain after scoring an extra-time decider against Argentina in the final at the New Jersey Stadium. While the Blaugranas would be keen to keep him with them during the new season, things could change soon as the 26-year-old is yet to renew his contract. The contract stalemate does not work well for Barcelona as they cannot officially put pen to paper for the player's extension until September due to financial fair play rules.
As revealed by an earlier report by Roundtable, Barcelona will have to pay Manchester City a figure of $9 million in bonuses if they decide to renew Torres's contract. While they consider their financial resources, PSG want to exploit this situation and grab his signature. Head coach Luis Enrique has already been in contact with his fellow Spaniard, and he has expressed approval for Les Parisiens' project, although a formal agreement on personal terms remains absent.
Meanwhile, the introduction of Atletico Madrid to the race complicates things for the Paris-based club. Los Colchoneros could add Alvarez as an exchange player in the deal to sign Torres, and there is no doubt that Barca would be tempted to accept the proposal. Marcos Llorente and Marc Pubill could also play an influential role in convincing their friend, Torres, to join the Madrid side instead of PSG.
