LeBron James is now a member of the Philadelphia 76ers after inking a two-year, $8 million deal with the franchise on Friday morning.
Shortly after the blockbuster move, NBA reporter Evan Sidery suggested that the 76ers could send a second-round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers for James’ 21-year-old son, Bronny, to help keep their NBA partnership alive.
That said, ESPN’s Ramona Shelbourne’s report regarding Bronny and his future with the Lakers makes Los Angeles’ stance on trading the USC product crystal clear.
“As for the impact of LeBron James’ decision on his son Bronny James, Rich Paul, the agent for both tells ESPN that ‘they are not a package deal’ and there's no current plan or request for Bronny Janes to join his father in Philly,” Shelburne wrote on X/Twitter.
“Bronny James recently had his contract guaranteed by the Lakers, whose staff has a fondness for him, according to sources.”
Shelburne’s intel doesn’t come as a substantial surprise, as the Lakers’ interest in Bronny’s long-term development with the franchise is well-documented. While the former second-round pick didn’t take the leap many expected, he was slightly more effective with Los Angeles in Year 2.
Bronny averaged 2.9 points and 1.2 assists with the Lakers in 2025-26, shooting 40.9% from the field and 38.6% from three-point land. Of course, the former McDonald’s All-American is nowhere near his full potential in the big leagues, but the Lakers clearly like what they’ve seen through two seasons.
