Steelers OT Broderick Jones cleared to practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers began training camp with the unfortunate news that Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey will begin the year on the PUP list due to a knee injury he suffered in mandatory minicamp. Fellow cornerback Donte Kent will also begin the season on the PUP list.

However, the Steelers did get some good news on the injury front, as offensive tackle Broderick Jones has been cleared to practice after recovering from a neck injury he suffered at the tail end of last season.
“He’s in a good place and he’s been cleared to go,” general manager Omar Khan said. “Obviously, we’re going to be smart about how we progress him, but you guys are going to see him out there on Wednesday.”
With Jones being cleared, that makes the competition for both tackle positions much more interesting. Troy Fautanu will be a starter, meaning the other tackle spot will come down to Jones, Dylan Cook, and rookie Max Iheanachor.
Should Jones not earn a starting spot, his name would instantly become one to watch on the trade market, as the Steelers didn’t pick up his fifth-year option and drafted the aforementioned Iheanachor in the first round this past April.
