The franchise’s all-time rushing leader shared that he was diagnosed in January 2025 during an appearance on Tyler Dunne’s Go Long podcast on Wednesday. NFL insider Adam Schefter later shared the news on X. Until now, Green said only his family and closest friends knew about his diagnosis.
“I had a little bit of the feet twitching when I’m in my sleep and stuff like that,” the 49-year-old said. “I knew something was going on long before that. I got in contact with some doctors, went through the testing, and finally got diagnosed.”

While there’s no cure for Parkinson’s disease, Green said he’s doing everything he can to stay ahead of it. He’s managing the condition with medication, regular exercise, a healthy diet, and by closely following his doctors’ treatment plan.
Green also addressed the ongoing conversation surrounding brain health in former NFL players. Although repeated hits over the course of his career are often part of the broader discussion around neurological disorders, he stopped short of linking his Parkinson’s diagnosis directly to his time in the league.
By sharing his story publicly, Green hopes to shine a light on Parkinson’s disease, encourage early diagnosis, and let others facing similar battles know they’re not alone. Despite the life-changing diagnosis, the Packers icon said he’s focused on staying positive and living life on his own terms.
Green is now the second Packers legend to go public with a Parkinson’s diagnosis in the past two years. Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre revealed he had the disease in September 2024 and later explained that his symptoms are marked more by stiffness and rigidity than tremors, requiring medication every four hours to keep them under control.
