Dodgers Reportedly Land Tarik Skubal From Tigers In Blockbuster Trade

ESPN's Jeff Passan dropped a major bombshell on Saturday night, reporting on X that the Detroit Tigers are trading two-time AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for three prospects.

With Skubal set to become a free agent this winter, his name has been swirling in trade rumors for weeks. While he was linked to several teams ahead of the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline, the defending World Series champs were the ones who landed him.
The Dodgers get yet another ace in Skubal, adding him to their already stacked rotation. He'll join a star-studded roster that already has the most wins in baseball, making the World Series favories even better.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are getting outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and right-hander Brady Smith in return. Per MLB Pipeline, they ranked as Los Angeles' No. 5, 7 and 17 prospects, respectively, prior to the trade.
It's a decent haul for Skubal, who's arguably the best pitcher in baseball. Since the start of 2023, he's 45-18 with a 2.46 ERA, a 0.90 WHIP and 11.0 K/9.
The 29-year-old lefty has been phenomenal in the playoffs, too, with a 2.04 ERA in six postseason starts. He's yet to pitch in a World Series game, but he may get a chance in October if the Dodgers keep it up.
