MIAMI GARDENS — The pads came on for the Miami Dolphins at the team’s fifth practice of training camp Monday.

That means the physicality ratchets up.

“It becomes way more real,” coach Jeff Hafley said Sunday in anticipation of what’s always considered an important day in a team’s preparation for the season. “I do think you need to have that physicality and you need to callous your body, allow your body to get used to that physical contact.”

Dolphins WR Jalen Tolbert went down after making a 1-on-1 catch and grabbed at his legs. He was down on the field attended to by trainers for a bit, then on a knee on the sideline, and finally walking under his own power. He appeared to try to get back into the drill before the horn sounded for the end of the period.

Tight end Greg Dulcich and offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer again were not seen at practice Monday after they first missed Sunday drills.

Rookie wide receiver Chris Bell, who has started camp on the non-football injury list, continues to increase the intensity of his work on the side of drills as he rehabs his knee injury from college.

There was a considerable and expected dropoff in practice attendance at Monday’s second session open to fans. As many had to return to work, there were only about 1,000 spectators Monday, which included a few summer camps of kids.

Here are observations from the Dolphins’ Monday practice:

— On the second play of full-team 11-on-11, Malik Willis went play action and, with good protection in the pocket, delivered a deep pass over the top to WR Malik Washington. He got behind CB JuJu Brents and S Zayne Anderson.

— LB Jordyn Brooks showed excellent pursuit to the outside, meeting the speedy De’Von Achane at the sideline on a wide run.

— Rookie TE Seydou Traore made a one-handed catch going to the sideline on a pass from Willis, but it’s uncertain if he got both feet inbounds.

— QB Quinn Ewers sent a deep pass with no target in the area. CB Ethan Bonner and S Michael Taaffe were nearby but couldn’t get to the ball for the interception. WR Tutu Atwell may have run the wrong route.

— RB Ollie Gordon II found room to run over the middle, as OL Josh Priebe delivered a nice block on LB Jacob Rodriguez.

— CB Marco Wilson punched the ball out against Terrace Marshall Jr., after the WR made an open catch about 20 yards downfield. Gordon recovered the fumble.

— In 1-on-1s, Malik Washington beat Chris Johnson deep and then caught a corner route over Alex Austin; Jason Marshall Jr. broke up a throw to Jalen Reagor; Tahj Washington caught an over-the-shoulder pass over Chris Johnson; CB Ethan Bonner broke up a pass to Donaven McCulley; Malik Willis overthrew AJ Henning as he got open deep.

— In quick-reaction DB drills where they had to secure sharp bullet passes as they charged forward emerging from between two tackling dummies, players seen dropping balls included cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. and safeties Zayne Anderson and Omar Brown. Others secured the football, either cleanly or after a brief bobble.
