A survivor of the atrocities on Oct. 7, 2023, perpetrated by Hamas has killed himself at the grave of his girlfriend who was murdered by the Islamic terror group.
Bar Asraf, 30, was found Saturday night at the grave of his girlfriend Liron Barda, nearly three years after her murder at the Nova Festival massacre, Israeli news site JFeed reported. Asraf’s body was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in a West Bank cemetery. Despite emergency teams being called, he was dead at the scene.
Asraf was reportedly overcome with grief over 26-year-old Barda, who was murdered by Hamas when they attacked the music festival close to the Gaza Strip and slaughtered 378 people. He stayed close with her family, visiting her parents and honouring her memory, according to an X post by activist Jérémy Benhaïm.
“Terrible news… Bar Asraf, 30 years old, a survivor of the Nova Festival massacre, took his own life last night on the grave of his girlfriend,” he wrote. “Since the pogrom of October 7, 2023, during which his partner, Liron Barda, was murdered by Hamas, Bar had been struggling with unbearable pain and an especially difficult grief. Throughout this period, he had remained very close to Liron’s parents, visiting them regularly. Just last Wednesday, Bar was celebrating his brother’s wedding. But yesterday, the pain finally overwhelmed him… The horror of October 7, it’s also this. Let us never forget. May his memory be a blessing.”
Stayed to help the wounded
Barda, who had been bartending at the festival, wouldn’t leave when the Palestinian terrorists attacked. She stayed behind to tend to the wounded, according to the Times of Israel . Footage showed Barda treating the wounded mere moments before the Islamic terrorists murdered her.
“I spoke to her that morning, I asked her to leave the area — she refused, she said there were wounded people and she was staying,” her father, Avi, said to Israel Hayom . “This was Liron — I would have been surprised if she agreed to flee.”
Previous suicide
Asraf’s death follows another suicide of an Oct. 7 survivor. Roei Shalev, 28 was found dead in a burning car in October 2025, two years after Islamic terrorists executed his girlfriend.
““I’m truly sorry. I can’t bear this pain any longer,” Shalev said in a message to Instagram. “I’m burning inside, and I can’t contain it anymore. Never in my life have I felt such pain and suffering — deep, burning, eating me from within. I just want this suffering to end. I’m alive — but inside, I’m already dead.”
