Daily Snow Report: Keep an eye on these regions of South Africa

South Africa is enjoying another quiet winter’s day, but weather forecasters are closely monitoring what could become one of the most significant snowfall events of the season later this week.
Tuesday, 4 August, begins without any impact-based weather warnings across the country, marking a continuation of the settled conditions that followed last week’s disruptive Orange-level snow and rain system.

Fire danger remains the only warning
According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), the only active weather alerts are extremely high fire danger warnings for the Karoo Hoogland and Laingsburg municipalities.
The rest of the country can expect generally fine to partly cloudy conditions.
Gauteng will experience a fine and cool day, with morning frost in southern areas and a high UVB sunburn index.
Mpumalanga will also see morning frost across the Highveld and escarpment before temperatures warm up over the Lowveld later in the day.
Meanwhile, isolated showers and thundershowers are forecast for parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State, while most other regions remain dry.
Eyes on the next snow system
Although no snowfall is expected today, forecasters are increasingly focused on a powerful cold front expected to arrive later this week.
The latest forecast models indicate a multi-day snowfall event affecting South Africa and Lesotho, with snow currently being projected across every province.
The forecast builds on earlier indications that low-level snowfall could extend as far north as Gauteng.
Should the latest weather models remain consistent, the approaching system has the potential to deliver one of the most widespread snow events of the 2026 winter season.
As always, snowfall forecasts remain subject to change, and motorists travelling through mountain passes or high-lying areas are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and road conditions before setting out.
