Minnesota Lynx star Kayla McBride delivered a performance for the ages in her team’s 103-90 win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday. McBride erupted for 43 points on 16-for-21 shooting, including a WNBA-record 10 made 3-pointers.

Before McBride drained 10 triples, six other players shared the WNBA record with nine 3-point field goals made in a single game. Marina Mabrey was the latest to join that group after making nine 3-pointers on June 19 and then replicating the feat six days later.
McBride needed only 32 minutes to reach her record-breaking total. Minnesota outscored Dallas by 16 points while she was on the floor.

ESPN Insights offered more context on the 5-foot-11 guard’s remarkable shooting display:
“Shot a perfect 7-7 on contested FG for 18 points; 9-14 on open looks for 25 points. Shot 15-19 for 41 points off of a teammate’s pass; including 8-9 from the field off an Olivia Miles pass for 22 points. Shot 9-13 for 27 points on catch-and-shoot attempts. Shot a perfect 5-5 for 14 points with Paige Bueckers as the primary defender.”
The blistering McBride show earned plenty of praise from the WNBA community.
“Yes, Kayla McBride DID have the greatest shooting night in WNBA history (min 40 pts). Her True Shooting % was > 100%! An impossible feat. …. Only a great 3 pt shooter on a heater can shoot over 100% TS% & > 40 pts. If anyone had done this in NBA, it has to be Steph,” a journalist wrote.
“Kayla McBride is one of the most underrated players in the league, year after year,” another sportswriter reacted.
“Kayla McBride got 40!! The Minnesota Lynx are a VERY scary team. Kayla is a legit threat at the 3, Olivia Miles’ all-around game is amazing, Napheesa Collier a former DPOY and MVP runner-up, and Courtney Williams’ mid-range is basically a layup,” podcaster Jaime Lardis continued.
“I am cackling at the fact that Kayla McBride is somehow only the 3rd best player on a real basketball team,” a X user added.
“Azzi Fudd’s defense was missed today, especially re: Kayla McBride. Dallas needs her healthy ASAP,” a play-by-play broadcaster for the Wings commented.
“Kayla McBride just BROKE the WNBA record for most 3-pointers made in a single game with TEN,” a basketball podcaster tweeted in disbelief.
McBride’s 43 points were the fourth-highest scoring total in the WNBA this season, according to StatMuse. Only A’ja Wilson (45), Caitlin Clark (45), and Marina Mabrey (53) have scored more.
The bigger picture was just as impressive for Minnesota. The Lynx have already clinched a playoff berth and improved to 27-7, three games ahead of the Golden State Valkyries (23-9) for the WNBA’s best record.
