Chaz Coleman is working out again, but not with Tennessee football

Chaz Coleman, the Penn State transfer who left Tennessee football after being medically disqualified, is working out again for what could be interpreted as a comeback attempt.

So what's the bad news for the Vols? Well, he's not working out with UT football.

On Aug. 12, Coleman posted four videos on his X account, which show him going through edge rusher drills at a gym. The location is not disclosed, but Coleman is no longer with the Vols football program or enrolled at UT.

The X post also includes praying hands emojis, hinting that Coleman might be trying to get back into playing condition again. The nature of his injury that led to the medical disqualification was never disclosed.

Coleman's exit was always peculiar.

In January, he transferred from Penn State to Tennessee as a five-star transfer and the the No. 1 edge rusher in theĀ portal, according toĀ 247Sports. But Coleman missed the second half of spring practice because of what coach Josh Heupel indicated wereĀ personal matters, and then heĀ didn't initially report to summer workoutsĀ in late May.

On June 26, UT announced that Coleman had been medically disqualified.

Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, the coach the Coleman followed to Tennessee, lamented the loss of his star edge rusher.

ā€œReal sorry not having Chaz. I hope the best for him as a young man,ā€ Knowles said Aug. 4. ā€œ(Pass rush) is kind of how Chaz made his mark last year at Penn State. We just set up opportunities for him in the game to be creative and pass rush. So itā€™s a question mark (for Tennessee's 2026 defense) and time will tell how that goes. But we need to have other tools in the toolbox to create the pass rush, if need be. And weā€™ll have that.ā€

If a player is medically disqualified, he can no longer play at that school. However, there are examples of players transferring to other schools and playing in future seasons if they are medically cleared.

Coleman has not commented publicly about his plans. The Warren, Ohio, native chose Tennessee over Ohio State, LSU and South Carolina when he transferred from Penn State.
