Child, adult critical as crash shuts down westbound 403; groups clash in Richmond Hill

Two people, including a child, were critically hurt after a pair of crashes Tuesday evening on Hwy. 403 near Square One Shopping Centre.
The OPP’s Highway Safety Division said the incident began at about 5 p.m. with a two-car crash on the westbound lanes of the 403 near Mavis Rd. They said both vehicles moved to the right-hand shoulder to exchange information with the occupants getting out of their vehicles.

That was when a third vehicle collided a “short time later” with one of the vehicles on the side of the road and pushed it into two people – one of the drivers and a child passenger – who had exited their ride.
The two were rushed to a hospital with critical injuries, while a third person was hospitalized with minor wounds.
Police said the driver of the third vehicle was uninjured.
The OPP said the Mississauga Detachment is investigating the crash and that all westbound lanes of the 403 will be closed until about 10 p.m.

2 people hurt as groups clash in Richmond Hill
A “dispute” at a Richmond Hill parking lot has left two people injured and two others in police custody.
York Regional Police said officers responded to a weapons call at a parking lot in the Yonge St.-Elgin Mills Rd. area on Tuesday after a “dispute between parties known to each other.”
They said two people were sent to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two suspects had been taken into custody as of 6 p.m.
“No parties are outstanding,” York cops said in a social media update. “Expect a large police presence during the investigation.”
They said there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
