Edwards is one of the most explosive stars in the NBA, with the 25-year-old player firmly establishing himself as one of the best players in the league right now.
He’s also among the most popular players for his likeable and relatable personality. However, that approach might have caused a ‘foot-in-mouth’ moment in the eyes of Jordan superfans.
Anthony Edwards says he’s a better dunker than Michael Jordan
Edwards is doing a media tour in the Philippines with Adidas right now and gave an interview where he was asked to break a stick when a better dunker than him was named.
Edwards broke his stick for every name mentioned, including LeBron James, Aaron Gordon, and Zach LaVine, but declared himself a better dunker than Jordan and Ja Morant.
Edwards justified why he didn’t contest names like Dominique Wilkins, Vince Carter, Julius Erving, and Blake Griffin.
“I don’t jump that high. Those guys be flying.”
Usually, when we hear an NBA player say they’re better than Jordan at something, they do it to illustrate they are the best at what they do.
In this case, Edwards actively named multiple players who are better than him, and consequently better than Jordan, as pure dunkers.
Anthony Edwards’ bold Michael Jordan claim is a strong opinion
The fact that Edwards admitted multiple other historic dunkers are better than him, but him claiming he’s better than Jordan as a dunker, makes it clear this is a nuanced personal opinion for the Wolves star.

Both players have an incredible collection of in-game posters, but Edwards’ dunks over Yuta Watanabe and John Collins rank among the best modern poster dunks by anyone not named Blake Griffin.
LaVine and Gordon will always be remembered in high regard as dunkers for their incredible dunk contest battles, even if neither is as likely to pull out flashy transition dunks through contact.
That’s something dunkers like Edwards, LeBron, Wilkins, Dr.J, Carter, and more would actively seek out. Jordan has an impressive collection of posters, and his jumping ability brought him worldwide fame, but Edwards would stack himself up as a dunker against MJ, even if not against the others.
