Suspect charged in unprovoked Toronto stabbing; 1 dead, 3 hurt in Brampton crash

A 36-year-old Toronto man has been charged after being accused of stabbing a total stranger, unprovoked, on Friday morning in the Yonge and Bloor Sts. area.

Cops said the victim was seriously injured but is expected to survive.
“The male victim was walking alone on the sidewalk when he was approached from behind,” police said in a news release issued Sunday morning.
“The suspect, unprovoked, stabbed the victim.”
His alleged attacker fled. Initial reports described him as a bearded male, and a photo that appeared to be taken from security cameras showed a man wearing a backwards baseball cap.
However, a news release issued late Saturday included a suspect photo showing a man with his face and neck covered in tattoos, including a large cross on his forehead.
On Saturday, Anthony Christopher David McLaughlin surrendered to police. He was charged with assault/cause bodily harm, and assault with weapon or imitation weapon.
A day earlier, a police officer was shot a few blocks away at Bloor and Sherbourne Sts. while arresting a suspect in the theft of an e-bike.
1 dead, 3 others hurt after two-vehicle crash in Brampton
Peel Regional Police say a man in his 20s is dead and three others are in hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Brampton overnight Saturday.
The crash happened at about 1:10 a.m. in The Gore Rd.-Castle Oaks Crossing.
A Nissan Pathfinder SUV and a minivan were reportedly both travelling southbound on Gore Rd. and Peel cops said the SUV appeared to make contact with the minivan in the intersection, causing the driver of the Pathfinder to “lose control” and roll over.
“The driver and sole occupant of the Pathfinder, a man in his 20s, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a statement.
Police said the driver and passengers of the minivan were taken to a local trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Major Collision Bureau is investigating.
E-scooter rider critically injured in North York crash
Police say an e-scooter rider was critically injured following a crash with a parked car overnight in North York.
Toronto Police said the crash happened at about 1:40 p.m. in the Driftwood Ave.-Jane St. area.
Cops said an e-scooter struck the open door of a parked car.
Paramedics said the person operating the e-scooter was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Cops said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
