New York Giants signing Pro Bowl RB Najee Harris

The New York Giants are signing free-agent running back Najee Harris to a one-year contract, reports NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Harris, a former first-round pick out of Alabama, visited the team on Monday and participated in a workout. The agreement comes one day after the Giants waived running back Dante Miller with an injury designation following a groin issue suffered in the preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Harris spent his first four NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he recorded four consecutive 1,000-yard rushing campaigns and earned a Pro Bowl selection after the 2021 season. He totaled 34 touchdowns during that stretch.
After the Steelers declined to retain him, Harris signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. He appeared in just three games before tearing his Achilles tendon, finishing the year with 15 carries for 61 yards.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh expressed clear interest following the visit.
“I felt like the hair on the back of my neck stood up when I saw him over there,” Harbaugh said. “He’s a big dude. So, yes, he’s coming back from the Achilles injury he had with my brother. And he looks good in the workout. He’s not back 100 percent. He’s not in football shape yet. So, if we are able to do something, it’ll be a process. But that would be a guy that has got a lot of experience. He’s a decorated vet… based on the workout, I would say we feel like he’s got a shot.”
At 6-foot-1 and 242 pounds, the 28-year-old power back adds size and experience to a room that already features Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary.

Harris also brings familiarity with senior offensive assistant Greg Roman, who coordinated the Chargers’ offense last season. The short-term deal gives the Giants additional depth and a proven veteran while Harris continues his recovery and works back into game shape ahead of the regular season.
