The Minnesota Vikings are rolling into the 2026 season with Kyler Murray as their new QB1, and Kevin O’Connell and company are hoping that Murray can rejuvenate a passing game that was hard to watch at times this season.

Murray will be in the best position to succeed that he has been in his entire career, and the Vikings have the most talented quarterback that they have had since at least Sam Darnold. Both sides should benefit from this signing, and Minnesota is one of the most interesting teams in the NFL as a result.

Another player who will benefit from this is Justin Jefferson. Jefferson is still clearly one of the best wide receivers in football, but he was one of the main players who suffered from the Vikings’ quarterback situation in 2025. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that getting Jefferson back on track was one of the main motivations for signing Murray.

“We spend an awful lot of time talking about Ja’Marr Chase and Puka Nacua and Jaxon Smith-Njigba and CeeDee Lamb and some of the great wide receivers in the league,” Schefter said. “Over the course of last year, it’s almost as if Justin Jefferson has fallen out of that conversation. By signing Kyler Murray, this is the Vikings’ attempt to get him square back into that conversation. To make sure that he is remembered as one of the best, if not the best, wide receiver in the NFL.

“We didn’t get to see those plays with any regularity from Justin Jefferson last year. And with Kyler Murray and the way he throws the deep ball and his accuracy, I think there’s a feeling within the organization that this can help revive Justin Jefferson.”

Jefferson still got to 1,000 yards last season, but he finished with just 1,048 yards on 84 catches with only two touchdowns in 17 games. By contrast, the former LSU star put up more yards in just 10 games back in 2023.

Minnesota is hoping that Jefferson will be back near the top of the NFL’s receiving leaderboards this season with Murray throwing him the ball.
