The demand for the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination, alongside the insistence on a CBI probe, was the primary contention between the Chief Minister Hemant Soren-led Mahagathbandhan government and student protesters. They suspended their 25-day-long stir on Wednesday only after Soren announced the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL and other multiple exams.

Hearing petitions challenging the government’s decision, the High Court directed the state government and the JPSC to file detailed responses by September 7. Justice Deepak Roshan heard the matter as he had also heard the petitions challenging the government’s cancellation of the 11th to 13th JPSC examinations and FSO recruitment on Thursday.

On Friday, several JSSC-CGL employees approached the High Court, challenging the government’s decision to cancel the exam. The petitioners argued that blanket cancellation of examinations and appointments would adversely affect candidates who had cleared the recruitment process and, in several cases, had already joined government service.

Candidates challenge decision

A total of 1,932 candidates were selected following the JSSC-CGL results. Many of them have already received appointments and are working in various government departments. However, the government's decision to cancel the examination put their appointments at risk.

High Court's latest decision on the cancellation of JSSC-CGL and CDPO exams came a day after it had stayed the state government’s decision to cancel the 11th to 13th Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Examination and the Food Safety Officer recruitment exam.

The court stayed the government notifications until further orders and directed that the affected selected candidates be reinstated, while seeking a response from the state government and the JPSC. The court has scheduled the next hearing in the matter for September 15.
