Sri Lanka vs India 2nd Test Live 2026 Live Score Updates

Hello everyone, and welcome to the live blog for the Sri Lanka vs India 1st Test in Galle.

Day 1 updates

Padikkal's marathon finally ends

Keshara Nuwantha has ended Devdutt Padikkal's stay on 117 off 193 balls, a huge wicket for Sri Lanka with the second new ball just around the corner. Pushed through quicker on a flatter trajectory, it was a delivery Padikkal should have come forward to. Instead, he went right back, and the ball gripped, turned past the outside edge and crashed into off stump.

Padikkal amazes with another century

The RCB star conjured his second Test century in the space of a week, reaching three figures off 168 balls with a single eased down to long-on off Prabath Jayasuriya. He had moved into the nineties in style, backing away to hammer a short, wide delivery through cover before flashing another gorgeous cut through the same region to reach 99.

Pant walks off the pitch in pain

Pant's misfortune with injuries continues as he has been forced to retire hurt. In the first ball of the 58th over, Lahiru Kamara's delivery hit Pant on his left forearm, which forced him to leave the pitch in immense pain.

Another brilliant knock from DDP coming

Having survived a massive scare on the very first delivery, Devdutt Padikkal has looked dialled in ever since. He raised his half-century with a crisp, well-placed drive wide of cover. The batters initially took off thinking two, only to see the ball speed all the way to the boundary cushion. Up at the other end, Shubman Gill strolled to a fifty of his own. But soon after that, he was dismissed after edging one to Dickwella.

Padikkal and Gill stich a quality partnership

Things are ticking along smoothly for India. Shubman Gill and Devdutt Padikkal haven't taken any silly chances, but they've still kept the scoreboard moving at a nice, healthy rate. Their 50-run stand took 96 deliveries to assemble: measured, calm, and sensible.

There’s definitely still some purchase out there if the pacers bend their backs, but Sri Lanka's fast bowlers have barely had a bowl this session. Hard to blame them entirely, given the brutal Colombo heat sapping everyone's energy out in the middle.

Two early dismissals rock India

Two early dismissals, spilled chances in the field, and a helmet-butt from Jaiswal made for a chaotic, action-packed opening session. Even so, India have kept the scoreboard ticking at a healthy clip above 3.5 an over. However, Shubman Gill and Devdutt Padikkal will know they need to tread carefully once play resumes after the break.

India off to a quality start

It has been a careful start from the hosts. The Sri Lankan pacers are asking some serious questions, and KL Rahul and Jaiswal have been in trouble on a couple of occassions, with the odd ball jagging back in.

Toss result: India won the toss and will bat first.
