Browns sign former Tennessee defensive end in NFL preseason

Cleveland (0-2) completed its second week in the NFL preseason. Buffalo (2-0) defeated the Browns, 31-7, on Aug. 22 at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio.

On Sunday after Week 2 in the NFL preseason, Cleveland signed former Tennessee defensive lineman Derek Barnett. The Browns also placed defensive end Alex Wright on injured reserve.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound former Vol is in his tenth NFL season. He has appeared in 122 career games with Philadelphia (2017-23) and Houston (2023-25).

Barnett has recorded 216 tackles, 34 sacks, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in the NFL. He was selected by the Eagles in the first round of the NFL draft in 2017 (No. 14 overall).

Barnett won Super LII with Philadelphia during his rookie season.

He appeared in 39 games for the Vols from 2014-16, recording 197 tackles, 52 tackles for a loss, 33 sacks, one interception, seven pass deflections, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Barnett set Tennessee’s career sack record (33), breaking a mark of 32 held by Reggie White.
