Lightning kills Florida woman, daughter in front of husband

A woman and her two-year-old daughter were killed by a lightning strike in Margate, Fla. on Sunday afternoon — directly in front of their husband and father, according to the New York Post .

According to police, Kenya Glasgow, 31, and daughter Kennedi, twin sister to Kensli, were walking down a sidewalk midway between Miami and West Palm Beach when they were hit in the early afternoon. Both were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
“I saw the whole thing,” Kam Glasgow told The Post. “A bolt of lightning came down, I got hit with the residuals from the ground and I looked over and that’s when I saw them.”
Kam wrote on Facebook ,”1 in 1.2 Million. S–t can’t be real.”
“I just lost my best friend. My daughter just lost her best friend,” he wrote. “After I lost my father a few years ago I learned a very valuable lesson and that’s to never question God. My babies didn’t suffer. I’m hurt we are hurt but if you gotten the chance to feel that beautiful light my wife and daughter brought into your life cherish it. It’s there for a reason. It gives us all the blueprint to just love others and always remember it doesn’t take much to be kind. Kenya Kennedi I Love You Both So Much. I Thank You Both For Choosing Me As Your Husband And Father. Don’t worry about Kensli and I. I know you both have us covered for the rest of our lives. We will make you both our story and take it one day at time because I know you both are guiding us.”
Since Sunday, Kam told the Post he and his daughter have received “support from our large family and a vast amount of friends who are still technically family.”
“My wife had the biggest heart in the world. And only cared about everybody else and never cared about herself. She put everybody before herself. Everybody showed up for everyone. Without hesitation,” he said.
Lightning deaths
The lightning strike marks the third and fourth deaths by lightning in Florida this year. It’s the most vulnerable state in the country to lightning, averaging seven deaths a year. This year, an 18-year-old man was killed while kayaking in Santa Rosa County, and a 51-year-old man was killed on Fort Myers Beach last month.

Two to three Canadians are killed by lightning every year, and close to 180 are injured. Environment Canada warns, “ When thunder roars, go indoors! ”
If you hear thunder, you are within striking distance of lightning and more people are struck before and after a storm than during one. Open structures such as gazebos won’t help you — you need to be in an enclosed space, preferably with wiring or plumbing, or an all-metal vehicle.
If you’re outside, stay away from tall objects such as trees and poles. Don’t handle electrical equipment and if you’re on the water, get to shore as quick as you can.
