SUAMICO – Jackson Smith’s 74-yard touchdown run on the first play of the third quarter broke open a close game in the Pirates’ nonconference victory over the Papermakers.

Bay Port improves to 2-0 on the season with Kimberly falling to 0-2 for the first time since 2004.

Ryder Timmerman scored on a 1-yard run and on a 19-yard reception. Braydon Maney also had an 18-yard scoring run for Bay Port.

Maddux Hermus scored on runs of 8 and 2 yards for Kimberly.

DE PERE – The Phantoms led 21-0 at halftime in the nonconference victory over the Lightning.

Cooper Schabo ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns for West De Pere. Andrew Greisen passed for 173 yards and one touchdown.

Appleton North got its only score on a 4-yard run by Calvin Hank in the fourth quarter.

LITTLE CHUTE – The Mustangs outscored the Foxes 18-0 in the second quarter to build a 26-7 halftime lead in the victory.

Little Chute improves to 2-0 overall, while FVL falls to 1-1.

Jaden Hermsen had two touchdown runs in the first half for Little Chute.

The Mustangs also got a couple of big plays for scores on a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown by Trevor Verhagen in the second quarter and 76-yard touchdown run by Tyler Hietpas in the third quarter.

FVL got a 65-yard touchdown run from Braden Heiges and a 6-yard touchdown pass from Heiges to Cael Loberger.

HORTONVILLE - The Polar Bears scored five goals in each half in the win over the Tigers.

Roman Glad and Jacob Plutz had three and two goals, respectively, for Hortonville. Mason Lyons, Noah Rindt, Evan Langkan, Anthony Zanon and Ben Diedrich each had one goal.

Zanon led Hortonville with three assists. Glad and Langkan both had two assists.

David Grassee and Eli Ryan were in goal for the shutout for Hortonville.

Freedom 7, Winneconne 0

FREEDOM - The Irish took a 2-0 lead in the first half and then broke open the game with five unanswered goals in the second half in their win over the Wolves.

Cal Calhoon had three goals and two assists for Freedom, while Dailey Lennon and three goals and one assist and Bret Horak had one goal and two assists.

Cohen Riska had four saves in goal for Freedom.

Andrew Sperling had 23 saves for Winneconne.

Little Chute 3, Berlin 1

BERLIN - The Mustangs evened their record at 1-1 with the win over Berlin.

Little Chute took a 3-0 lead before giving up a goal.

Asher Buck scored each of the Mustangs’ goals with Justin Garcia and Jeremiah Bellington getting assists.

Declan Falk had six saves for Little Chute.

Fox Valley Lutheran 3, Appleton North 2

APPLETON - Ezra Schaser scored twice and Cameron Williams also scored to lead the Foxes to the win over the Lightning.

Green Bay Preble 1, Appleton East 0

APPLETON - Joe Rivas scored off an assist from Cam Howard to lead the Hornets to the win over the Patriots.

Brace Massio made three saves in goal for Preble (1-0-1).

LUXEMBURG- The Spartans got a goal in the 21st minute from Elvin Mendoza and went on to defeat the Ghosts.

Connor Hart had the assist on Mendoza’s goal for Luxemburg-Casco.

Carson Koller had 10 saves in goal for Luxemburg-Casco.

Ty Tripp had three saves for Kaukauna.

APPLETON - The Red Raiders got two second-half goals from Kevin Cruz Lagunes in the win over the Hawks.

Brayden Puyleart and Colin Tackmier assisted on Pulaski’s goals.

Blake Batzer had three saves in goal for Pulaski.

Elias Backes had five saves for Xavier (0-2).

Marinette 2, Seymour 1

SEYMOUR - Brandon Rabideau and Trevin Smercheck scored goals to lead the Marines to the win over the Thunder.

Landen Staggs had an assist for Marinette.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Zephyr Quad (Wednesday)

FOX CROSSING - St. Mary Catholic didn’t drop a set as it finished with a 3-0 record.

The Zephyrs beat Amherst 25-13, 25-21, defeated Random Lake 25-14, 25-6 and defeated West Bend East 25-22, 25-23.

West Bend East went 2-1 with victories over Random Lake (25-10, 25-12) and Amherst (25-13, 25-11). Amherst went 1-2 with a win over Random Lake.

Leading the Zephyrs were Autumn Crowe with 15 kills, Luci Nackers with 12 kills, Adele Brennan with 11 kills and 27 assists, Emily Weiss with 33 assists and Bitsy McCauley with 18 digs.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

FVA vs. Southeast Battle (Wednesday)

DE PERE - Kimberly finished with a 2-1 record in the tournament at St. Norbert College.

The Papermakers beat Wilmot 25-17, 25-11 and beat Kenosha Indian Trail 25-19, 25-11. Franklin defeated Kimberly 26-24, 22-25, 15-9.

Alex Krause had 27 kills, 16 digs and four blocks for Kimberly. Will Vander Loop had 55 assists, Wade Gloudemans had 16 kills, Noah Xiong had 20 digs, Will Girard had 16 digs and Bo Grabner had four blocks.
