The NBA GOAT debate is a constant part of the online discourse, and Stephen Jackson claims the latest development disqualifies LeBron James from the conversation.
LeBron James’ fans have been suggesting he is the NBA GOAT ever since the championship win in 2016. His incredible longevity, along with the statistical dominance he has achieved, have led many to agree.

However, to a lot of fans, especially older ones, Michael Jordan is still very much the greatest ever. There is a sizeable population which believes Kobe Bryant also deserves that title.
James has the fewest number of rings between these three legends. He joined the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason to help change that. And Stephen Jackson says it has affected his legacy.

The King took a huge paycut to go to Philly, who already have stars like Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Before Bron’s arrival, the team also managed to acquire Jaylen Brown.
This means James is the final piece as the team puts themselves in the ultimate position to become champions. And that’s exactly what Jackson thinks the problem is.
“With all the GOAT talk comparing him (LeBron) to Michael and Kobe, going back to Cleveland was the only move that made sense to keep him in that conversation,” Jackson said.
“Joining a team that’s already championship-ready isn’t the best player in the league challenging himself.”
LeBron led the Los Angeles Lakers to a series win the playoffs as the only superstar last season. His addition to the Sixers does make their starting five appear borderline unfair.
However, to discredit his entire GOAT case based on this move feels a bit reactionary. Should Bron fail in Philly, though, fans might be inclined to hold it against him.
