Walsh kicks off NCAA college football season with win at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, W.VA. — A defensive stand at midfield in the final minute helped the Walsh University football team hold off West Liberty 30-27 in the season opener on Aug. 27.
Walsh built 30-13 lead before West Liberty scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Hilltoppers drove 20 yards to the 50 on their final drive, but four straight incompletions closed out the win for the Cavaliers.

Jake Gill ran for two touchdowns and caught a TD pass from Brendan Zurbrugg for Walsh. Brady Gooding also had a 62-yard touchdown completion from Hayden Wickard.
Wickhard finished 12-of-18 for 228 yards. Zurbrugg was 6-of-9 for 46 yards.
Gooding had two receptions for 110 yards. Gill led the Cavs in rushing with 83 yards.
