ALL-USA Southwest RB Landen Williams-Callis goes big in revenge game
· Yahoo Sports
It's a long shot for Landen Williams-Callis to break the all-time Texas high school football rushing record, but it's astounding that coming out of his junior year, he's within distance. His opening game of the season for Randle (Richmond, TX), a 20-14 victory over South Oak Cliff (Dallas, TX) in a rematch of last year's 5A Div. 2 championship game, showed that he has a chance.

Williams-Callis rushed for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 32 carries, getting revenge following the loss in last year's title game. It's a nice start to the season after rushing for 3,502 yards and 59 touchdowns as a junior, earning recognition on the ALL-USA First Team Offense.
A Texas commit, Williams-Callis is a five-star prospect and ranked 28th in the USA TODAY Sports recruiting rankings. He has an astounding 70 college offers, according to 247Sports, giving him his pick of pretty much any program he could consider.
That's because he has a shot — a long shot, but a shot — at breaking a prestigious record in the country's fiercest state for high school football. He entered the season with 7,554 career rushing yards, and after this 227-yard game, he is 3,602 yards away from breaking the record of 11,382, according to MaxPreps.
He'd have to approach 4,000 yards in the season to do so, but he averaged 218.9 yards per game across 16 games last season. With the same number of games, he would need to average 239.3 yards per game this year to beat the record. As such, this 227-yard game is a little lower than needed.
But Williams-Callis is just warming up.
Randle next plays on Sept. 3 against Westfield (Houston, TX).
