Two 1994-Batch ADGs Promoted To SDG Rank; Raja Babu Singh Appointed SDG Rail

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Two senior 1994-batch IPS officers, Raja Babu Singh and Deo Prakash Gupta, have been promoted to the post of Special Director General of Police (SDG) in Madhya Pradesh.

The Madhya Pradesh Home Department issued the promotion order on August 31, with the promotions taking effect from September 1, 2026. Both officers have been promoted to the DG pay scale while continuing with their respective areas of responsibility.

Raja Babu Singh: Promoted to Special DG Rail

Raja Babu Singh has been promoted from Additional Director General (ADG) Rail, Bhopal, to Special DG Rail, Bhopal.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs' 2026 IPS Civil List, Singh is a 1994-batch IPS officer who joined the service on September 6, 1994. He was born on July 11, 1967, and has completed more than three decades in the police service.

Singh has received the Police Medal for Gallantry and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service for his work during his career.

In a major IPS reshuffle in May 2026, Singh was shifted from ADG Training to ADG Rail, Bhopal. Before this, he had handled responsibilities related to police training and modernisation.

Singh has also served on central deputation with the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). He has served as Inspector General with the BSF Kashmir Frontier.

Deo Prakash Gupta: To Continue Key Police Reform Charges

Deo Prakash Gupta has also been promoted from ADG to Special DG. He will continue to handle several important areas, including community policing, RTI, Lok Seva Guarantee, cooperative fraud, police manual, research and development and police reforms.

Gupta is also a 1994-batch IPS officer. As per the MHA's 2026 IPS Civil List, he joined the IPS on September 4, 1994. He was born on July 25, 1969, and has also completed more than 30 years in service.

Gupta has been awarded the Indian Police Medal for his service.

In the May 2026 IPS reshuffle, Gupta was assigned the community policing and RTI-related responsibilities along with other police reform and administrative portfolios.

With their latest promotions, both Singh and Gupta have moved to the Special DG level after more than three decades of service in the Madhya Pradesh Police.
