The home stretch of the 2026 MLB season has begun, as September is getting underway for all MLB ballclubs. For the Toronto Blue Jays, the 2026 season has been one to forget.

But with one month to go, they might actually have a chance to salvage things, as they aren't too far out of a postseason spot thanks to an incredibly weak American League Wild Card hunt.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller predicts that the Blue Jays will stay hot, as they have been since the tail end of July, and secure the third and final Wild Card spot in a prediction that is totally possible.

Blue Jays boldly predicted to make MLB postseason after horrible first-half

"Toronto stays hot and crashes the postseason party," Miller predicts. "Since slipping to 49-59 in late July, though, they have been one of the hottest teams in baseball at 19-11, punctuated by a sweep of the Seattle Mariners this past weekend."

While the AL East title is out of reach, as the Blue Jays are 15.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays, a spot in the AL Wild Card is very much in play for this ballclub.

Entering play on Wednesday, September 2, the Blue Jays sit just 2.5 games back of the Cleveland Guardians for the third and final Wild Card spot.

The Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles are each 1.5 games back of the Guardians, so the Blue Jays won't just have to leapfrog the Guardians; they'll need to surpass the Rangers and Orioles as well.

Fortunately, the Blue Jays could actually make up that ground down the final few games of the 2026 MLB season thanks to an easy schedule.

They have two more games against the Guardians, then three against the Kansas City Royals and Athletics each to close out a lengthy road trip.

Then it's a three-game set against the Orioles, and then the Detroit Tigers at home. Finally, they close the year with three games against the Rangers, another three against the Orioles, and a three-game homestand against the Cincinnati Reds.

Making up the ground needed to earn a postseason spot will require some outside help, but the Blue Jays have a schedule against opponents they should be able to beat.

So, when Miller is predicting the Blue Jays to make the MLB postseason, it shouldn't be considered a big surprise. Toronto has a real chance to make the postseason despite their horrible start to the year following a near World Series title last season.
