When the two first squared off, the series belonged to Wisconsin. The Badgers won the first meeting 54-0 in Madison on Nov. 10, 1900, and then once again won 58-0 in Milwaukee in 1904. The following season, the Badgers shut out the Irish again with the score of 21-0. The two teams squared off in 1917 and finished in a scoreless tie, so through the first four games in the series, Wisconsin held a 133-0 edge over their midwestern rivals.

Then the momentum swung towards Notre Dame. The Irish began a four-game winning streak with a 38-3 victory in 1924. That win was followed by shutout victories in 1929, 1934, 1935, and 1936. Notre Dame did not allow a single point during that stretch.
The two programs played again in the 1940s, with Wisconsin winning 50-0 in 1943 and then Notre Dame was victorious 28-13 in 1944.
The schools then went nearly two decades before resuming their series in the 1960s.
Wisconsin won the meetings in 1962 and 1963, and Notre Dame won in 1964 in what was Ara Parseghian's first game as Irish head coach.
Then the two programs did not play for 57 years.
The two teams resumed the series in 2021 with a game in Soldier Field in Chicago, IL. Notre Dame dominated the game with 31 straight points and came away with a 41-13 victory.
Sunday's game will be only the third college football game at the historic stadium. Notre Dame is considered the heavy favorite and looks to kick start their season with a victory over a rival they've now faced off against for over 100 years.
