The 2025 season was one Roman Anthony will always remember, placing third in Rookie of the Year voting and earning praise as one of baseball’s brightest stars. This season is one the Red Sox slugger wishes he could do over.

To a certain degree, he’s doing so by only focusing on an important stretch: the last month of the season.

Following the World Baseball Classic, Anthony was set to bring momentum back to Boston. After about 30 games, he exited a May 4 game against the Tigers after feeling discomfort in his right wrist. What was initially a wrist sprain turned into a torn ligament in his ring finger.

Finally feeling comfortable hitting, Anthony returned to the majors on August 30. After six hits in 13 at-bats, Anthony hit his first home run on Wednesday against the Mariners. He also had three hits in that game, bringing his average from .229 (in May) to .268.

The red-hot Anthony is motivated to prove he can play at an elite level after all that time off. It’s like hitting the reset button.

"It’s like a new season in a sense for me. It’s felt like I’ve missed a year," Anthony said via The Boston Globe. "So with the time off and getting a chance to kind of turn the page and enter that mode of… now being September, it’s just doing everything I can to help the team win.

"Not that that isn’t always the goal, but I think when you get closer to the end of the year, you start to realize that nothing matters anymore except for winning."

The Red Sox own a Wild Card spot. The team is also eight and a half games back of the Rays in the AL East. Even without Anthony, Boston became one of the hottest teams of the summer, thanks to multiple win streaks.

His injury was considered “unprecedented.” Now Anthony has returned when the Red Sox need him the most. If he continues swinging a hot bat, his potential is limitless.
