The Cleveland Cavaliers have a fantastic squad led by star players. They might have struggled in the 2026 Playoffs, but they still proved that they were the second-best team in the Eastern Conference despite getting swept by the New York Knicks.
Donovan Mitchell is the clear superstar for the Cavaliers, but he does have a strong supporting cast. The biggest name there is Evan Mobley, who is one of the league's most promising big men. At only 25, it seems Mobley still has some potential to tap into, and that is what Mitchell believes as well.
Donovan Mitchell thinks Evan Mobley can still take the next step
Mobley is also an accomplished player, especially withh is Defensive Player of the Year and All-Star nods. He is one of the best power forwards in the league, especially on the defensive end of the game. Mobley has also shown some promise, especially with his assertiveness on offense.
At 25, it is normal for players to not be the finished product just yet. Mobley has plenty of potential because he has all the tools to become a top-tier big man. While he is more defensively inclined, it still seems like there is potential to unlock.

As the star for the Cavs, Mitchell seems prepared to help Mobley become a much better player. Moving forward, it seems that the Cavaliers are ready to succeed, and with Mobley looking to explode further, the team might be in a better spot than expected.
"Cavs were the worst team in the league. Evan came, and they were a Play-In team. He went from All-Star to All-NBA and DPOY. So I have no doubt he is gonna take the jump that people are waiting for. He’s young. He’s going to take that leap," Mitchell said while being a guest on the Cousins podcast with Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter.
The Cavaliers are ready to be a much better team. They still have the core group of Mitchell, Mobley, James Harden, and Jarrett Allen. If they can learn from the losses they suffered in the 2026 Playoffs, they can be a team that surprises everyone.
