PLATTSBURGH 45
FRANKLIN ACADEMY 0
PLATTSBURGH — The Hornets used every phase of offense to get the job done and defeat the Huskies, 45-0 on Saturday.
Colden Johnson used his legs and arm to find paydirt and Ryan Colburn returned a punt 92 yards for a score. To top it all off, Owen Dubay recorded a safety midway through the third quarter.
Plattsburgh didn’t just control the game offensively, but were stout on defense. They limited Franklin Academy to 100 yards of total offense, with only 26 yards of total offense in the first half.
The Hornets accounted for 186 yards on the ground with Johnson leading the way with 63 yards on eight carries and three touchdowns. Garrison Rodriguez and Ben Carpenter added 60 and 48 yards, respectively.
Colburn led the way through the air with 45 yards on five receptions. Cooper Holland finished with 39 yards on three catches with a touchdown.
What accounted for a 22-0 lead at the break, remained that way as Plattsburgh continued to apply pressure and handle Franklin Academy.
The Hornets will hit the road for a contest Saturday at Linney Field against Moriah. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.

Ogdensburg 28
Beekmantown 7
OGDENSBURG — Mistakes were a theme of the weekend and Beekmantown just got in its own way in a 28-7 defeat to Ogdensburg Free Academy.
OFA built a 22-0 halftime lead thanks to a defensive miscue which led to a 31-yard touchdown pass from Trent Power to Urijah Austin. It proved to be the only defensive mistake of the night, but set the Eagles back.
On the next possession, the ball sailed out of the endzone on a punt for a safety to push the lead to 8-0 in favor of the Blue Devils.
Will LaFlair scored on a short yard plunge after a favorable position from the free kick. He added a second score in the second quarter
The bright spot for Beekmantown came when Garrett Pelkey returned the second half opening kickoff 72 yards for the score.
The Eagles will look to rebound in their home opener Friday when Springfield (Vermont) makes its way to Beekmantown. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
GREENWICH 26
MORIAH 0
GREENWICH — Sometimes things are bigger than the game. That was the case in Moriah’s 26-0 loss to Greenwich, Friday.
With 9:12 remaining in the third, both teams mutually agreed to end the game following a second extended injury break.
Speaking to Vikings head coach Casey Nephew, both players will make a complete recovery but are most likely done for the season.
This marks the second consecutive year Moriah has lost a player in its first game.
Midway through the second quarter, the first stoppage happened after Greenwich’s Ethan Mullen caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Saunders. The game was stopped from approximately 20 minutes as the player was attended to and taken off the field by ambulance.
The second occurred early in the third when Greenwich’s Keegan Clayton scored on a 11-yard run. That delay lasted nearly 35 minutes before the game was called.
Before the stoppage, Saunders and Clayton had done most of the damage. Saunders had one passing and one rushing touchdown while Clayton rushed 12 times for 176 yards and 2 scores.
Moriah struggled to move the ball offensively rushing 13 times for -2 yards. Joey Kazlo went 3-8 in the air for nine yards.
Nephew said while the team was shaken up Friday, the players he’s spoken to over the weekend have sounded better and ready to play for their injured teammates.
With the game set for Saturday, Nephew said he gave his team an extra day off before they return to practice.
Moriah opens up its home slate against Plattsburgh (1-0) with a 1 p.m. kick off at Linney Field in Mineville.
