Indiana running back Khobie Martin will be out roughly half the season with an injury, coach Curt Cignetti told reporters Monday.

"Khobie Martin will be out a little bit," Cignetti said. "[We] expect him back midseason."

The former three-star rusher entered his redshirt sophomore season in Saturday's win over North Texas. Martin appeared in 14 games during the Hoosiers' national championship run last season. He was IU's third-leading rusher with 505 yards and six touchdowns.

Martin left the Hoosiers' season-opener and didn't return. He was expected to be part of Indiana's running back rotation. There was no official word on the extent of Martin's injury, but he appeared on an Instagram post Sunday with his right arm in a sling.

What's more interesting is that Martin played, but did not record any stats in IU's 52-16 win over North Texas.Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe Jr. will likely split the majority of the carries out of the backfield for the Hoosiers from here on out.

Cignetti added two more names to Indiana's preliminary injury report. He said cornerbacks A.J. Harris and Jamari Sharpe are day-to-day after also leaving the game on Saturday.

Indiana faces Howard and Western Kentucky in the coming weeks to round out the non-conference portion of its schedule. They open Big Ten Conference play on Sept. 25 against Northwestern.
