'I Really Hope His Fibula Didn't Fracture' -- Sports Doctors React As Patriots WR A.J. Brown Suffers Scary Injury vs. Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks were dealt a huge injury blow on their first drive, with Sam Darnold going down with a hip injury, and then the New England Patriots were dealt one for themselves. Their new star addition, A.J. Brown, left the game with an apparent injury. Doctors on social media reacted to the brutal blow to the Patriots’ receiving core.

On a third down, early in the third quarter, Drake Maye tried fitting the ball into Brown, but the ball was nicely broken up, and the Patriots were setting up to punt. Brown stayed down for a while and gingerly limped off the field. He went to the medical tent and is questionable to return with an ankle injury.

Doctors watching from home reviewed the clip and expressed concern for Brown and the potential injuries he may have sustained.

“Potentially a double whammy. Concern for Right high ankle sprain but also Right PCL sprain as his knee slams into the turf. Typically wouldn’t add this part too, but given the angle/torque of his ankle I really hope his fibula didn’t fracture. Probably not though,” said doctor Jeff Mueller.

It didn’t look good for Brown as the cornerback landed on top of his lower leg and ankle area. He immediately grabbed for that area. After he struggled to get to the sideline, he was looked at and limped to the locker room. Mueller expressed some concern for a fibula fracture, which would be a horrible loss and a long-term recovery for Brown.

But after seeing Brown limp to the locker room, he’s just about ruled out the fibula fracture. Mueller ripped the Patriots for not using a cart to get Brown into the locker room and instead forcing him to put unnecessary pressure on his ankle.

“AJ Brown limping to the locker room. I’ll take this as a good sign towards no fibula fracture, but gosh dang get this man a cart. Let’s make him walk all the way to the locker room on a high ankle sprain. Smart,” said Mueller.

Dr. David Chao looked into it himself and agreed with the potential for a high ankle sprain.

“AJ Brown concern for right high ankle eversion sprain. Hard to continue effectively,” said Chao.

A third doctor on social media reviewed the Brown injury and seems to agree with a potential high ankle sprain.

“Holding his right ankle. Foot gets caught and defender hits his ankle from the outside. Holding above his ankle. Possible high ankle sprain. Hope he’s okay,”said Tom Christ.

Brown’s return to tonight’s game might be tough, although he’s yet to be ruled out. The Patriots, whose offense ranked eighth on PFN’s Offense Impact Metric in 2025, will have to rely on Romeo Doubs, Pop Douglas, Kyle Williams, and Mack Hollins to get them over the finish line in Week 1.

The receiving options aren’t great, and the Patriots may regret trading away Kayshon Boutte if Brown is sidelined for an extended period.

For tonight, the Patriots hold a 10-point lead early in the second half and need to do whatever they can to take down the reigning Super Bowl champs. A bigger role from Rhamondre Stevenson should be expected as they try to get out of Seattle with a win.
