Patrick Mahomes headlines Chiefs’ eight-man injury report for week 1 Broncos clash

Kansas City Chiefs have provided their first injury update ahead of their Week 1 meeting with the Denver Broncos, with Patrick Mahomes among eight players listed on the report.
Mahomes was listed with a knee issue but was able to participate fully in Thursday’s practice. Several other notable Chiefs players also took part in the session without any restrictions.

Xavier Worthy was listed with a shoulder issue, while Rashee Rice appeared on the report with a knee problem. Guard Trey Smith was listed with a hip issue.
The defensive side of the team also featured several names, with Ashton Gillotte listed with a foot issue and R Mason Thomas carrying a hamstring designation. Jack Cochrane was listed with a knee issue, while L’Jarius Sneed was also included with a knee issue.
While the eight players listed above were able to practise in full, two Chiefs players were absent from Thursday’s session.
Offensive tackle Josh Simmons was listed with a back issue, while safety Chamarri Conner was dealing with a knee problem.
Neither player is expected to suit up for Monday night’s matchup against Denver, according to the injury report.
The Chiefs therefore received encouraging news regarding the eight players who were listed but still managed to practise fully.
However, Gillotte’s status stands out given his recent absence from the field.
The defensive end sustained a ruptured plantar fascia in his right foot early in training camp, which kept him out of a significant portion of practices as well as all three preseason games.
Gillotte is listed as a starter on Kansas City’s unofficial depth chart, but his return could create an interesting decision regarding the defensive snaps. R Mason Thomas and Felix Anudike-Uzomah are also in the mix, leaving the Chiefs with a decision over how the workload will be distributed.
With Week 1 approaching, Kansas City will continue to monitor their injury situation before facing Denver.
